Never Found
by Peter Mark
I walked the North Side and the South Side,
the East Side and the West,
I went inside, I went outside, too.
I looked in cars, I looked in bars,
got on my knees, looked in the trees.
But I never saw what I was looking for.
I never found what i was looking for.
I asked doctors, I asked teachers,
I asked barmaids, I asked preachers,
coptor pilots, taxi drivers, too.
A Wall Street yup, a ghetto tough,
a computer pro, a factory joe.
But I never heard what i was looking for.
I never found what i was looking for.
Cause I'm looking out over something.
Trying to see what I'm supposed to see.
I'm looking out over nothing.
Trying to be what i'm supposed to be.
I read novels, I read textbooks,
I read bibles, I read phonebooks,
funny papers, daily journals, too.
I searched the stacks, magazine racks,
blog files, fisch miles.
But I never read what I was looking for.
Never learned what I was looking for.
Trying to be what I'm supposed to be.
Well, the sun rose, then the sun set.
the sun rose, then the sun set.
the sun rose and the sun set again.
It got hot, it got cold.
Winters past, seasons flowed.
And I hope I find what I am looking for.
I hope I find what I am looking for.
Trying to be what I'm supposed to be.
